Meeting Students’ Needs: Providing Essential Skills through Rigorous Instruction

Students are continually faced with complex language demands in a variety of contexts - in academics, careers, and their personal lives. As ESL instructors, we need to provide instruction that equips them to handle those demands even at the beginning levels. This presentation discusses how teachers can incorporate academic language, critical thinking skills, and various language strategies, and provides a few concrete examples of how to tweak lessons to address the needs of learners.
